Moventas Gears Oy begins cooperation negotiations with its staff on 7 January, 2013 concerning temporary layoffs for financial and operational reasons. The negotiation invitation according to the Finnish Act of Co-Determination has been presented to staff representatives today.
Moventas’ need for adjusting its operations is due to an insufficient order backlog for H1/2013 in proportion to the number of staff in Moventas’ home base in Jyväskylä, Finland.
- We will temporarily adapt, however without compromising our long term goal, which is profitable growth, comments Moventas President & CEO Mikael Laine .
Moventas has implemented a growth strategy with the support from its owner Clyde Blowers since the summer of 2012. Last year, Moventas strongly developed its customer relationships and renewed its organization into a more customer-oriented one, by improving key account and product management among other areas. As a pioneer in industrial gears, Moventas also continues with innovative research and development.
- Our strengthened position, completed with the most comprehensive service offering in the industry and a growing global footprint, puts Moventas in an excellent position once the market situation improves. We know we’re on the right track, as our industrial gears service grew by over ten percent last year, Laine says.
The temporary layoff need concerns Moventas’ entire Finnish staff, and the layoff period will vary by personnel group during the first half of the year.
Production of Moventas’ Finnish company has been centralized in Jyväskylä at the end of last year. The company also has Finnish staff in Vantaa and Karkkila. Moventas employs a total of 635 people in Finland and 970 people globally.
